A new bronco in the stable

Being sick this week, yet still putting in the hours of training had left me pretty much drained of energy during the week, so finding the mental fortitude to tap out blogs was extremely difficult. Alas, life did not stop and interesting things continued to occur on the bike - that is to say, I have a lot to write about. So I'm going to be very ambitious and try to crank out two entries today to recap the recent events.

Those of you who haven't yet heard, I've added another bike to my collection. It is a the Jack Kane custom built SL 2009 with new to newer SRAM Rival drive-terrain. 
The frame is aluminum, with carbon seat stays, chain stays and fork. It was being sold by Emory, a guy I quite often ride with in the mornings, so I was able to get quite a good deal on it. Some may question why I need a second road bike. Well, there are a couple of reasons. 

First, I finally decided I'm going to do some crits this year, so it's nice to have a bike that is a bit more sturdy than carbon and the one that I will not be hugely bummed to crash. Don't get me wrong, this isn't by any means a beater bike. It's a very nice machine that I intend to keep in as good of a condition as all my other equipment, but as between this bike and my Orbea, I would definitely be saddened less were I to crash on this. 

Second, it's just nice to have a spare bike. I know it's a luxury that not all can afford, either due to financial or spacial reasons, but it's nice to have a second bike. If something is suddenly wrong with my main one, or if the cranks there are acting up, or whatever, I can always just grab this one off the rack and not miss a beat. It's kind of like extra security or peace of mind - knowing that I won't have to have any breaks in my training simply because one of my bikes is out of order for a little while. 

I will have to do a few things to this bike however, like get a seat and a shorter stem. I'm also going to have to take careful measurements of my Orbea and make sure I set everything up the exact same way on the Kane. But all of that is just the type of bike geek fun I like to have. Can't wait to take it out for a test run!

  2. I honestly have no idea. I know that with my heavy Powertap wheel and heavy front training wheel, with SRAM Rival components, it's probably in the 18-18.5lb range. Actually just rode it for the first time two days ago - corners like I'm on rails - perfect for crits.     We appreciate your feedback on the cornering capabilities of our bikes. We take great pride in that trait.

    What size is the frame? I can weigh another frame by itself if you would like. Our SL is a work-horse frame for racing.

    The size of the frame is 60. Appreciate your effort and keep up the solid bike building. Will definitely consider you guys when it's time for a new (another) rig.

    We've changed our sizing slightly, but I was able to find a 61, so I weighed it (it will be slightly heavier). It weighs 1214 grams.
